  "Taj Mahal ka Tender" - A popular satire  

PACE- The Hindustan Times Newspaper in Education Programme, hosted the 8th Annual Principal's Meet on 15th July,2006 at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. Over the years, this event held exclusively for princials has included interesting and innovative performances such as 'Tiranga', a poetic description of the national flag. 'Distress to De-stress', a spoof staged by the PACE team, a talk on health and well-being by well known nutrionist Dr. Shikha Sharma and several motivational seminars conducted by eminent speakers such as Shiv Khera, Arindam Chaudhari and above all the hon'ble President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam who delivered his historic keynote address in 2003.

This year the very popular satire "Taj Mahal ka Tender" was presented by IPTA- The Indian Peoples' Theatre Association, Mumbai. It was an interesting portrayal of the current political and bureaucratic scenario in India through the plot which explores the possibility of Shahjahan coming alive and giving orders to construct the Taj Mahal in tody's milieu.The bureaucratic machinery, with its customary red tape, comes into action, bringing to the play wit,sarcasm and humour.

Performed for the first time in the Capital, with the original cast, the play revolves around Emperor Shah Jahan's desire to construct a mausoleum in the memory of his beautiful deceased wife Mumtaz. The story is a satire on the corrupt system and really amused the distinguished invitees.

Ms. Annapoorna Sehgal, Head-Education, commenced the Meet with a presentation on some of PACE's noteworthy achievements of 2005, and some of the highlights of the coming academic year.

Speaking at the occasion as Chief Guest, Hindustan Times Political Editor Pankaj Vohra lauded the noble initiative and stressed the role of Principals and teachers in shaping the future generations."What is also commendable about PACE is that through annual Meets like this, it celebrates the invaluable contribution that Principals and teachers make to society".

For actor, Rakesh Bedi,it brought back old memories. "It was here that I acted in one of my first movies, 'Chashme Baddoor'", he said and added, "I would really like to thank PACE for inviting us since this is the first time we have performed this play here. To give the Principals a treat like this is an effort worth lauding".

Directed by Salim Arif and written by Ajay Shukla, with music by Kuldeep Singh, the cast of the play featured eminent theatre persons Rakesh Bedi, Avtar Gill, Rajan Kapoor, Pramod Dubey, om Prakash and others.

The meet was attended by Principals, Vice Principals, Headmistresses and other distinguished guests from over 1000 schools across Delhi and NCR.
